The graphics of those games can be upscaled (the NGP's resolution is almost double that of the PSP) to make them seem smoother and hopefully much better. This will support full backwards compatibility with the PSP's enormous library of games.

Gameplay Videos: Uncharted Golden Abyss

When the NGP/PSVita launches, Uncharted is certainly set to be the most popular game. The game has a nice combat gameplay and you never feel a need for another kind of controller, a keyboard or a mouse. For example, your character engages a squad of hostiles and takes cover so when you return fire the pointer is always near one of the hostiles – the game assists you in targeting greatly simplifying the process.

At some points you can use the touchscreen and the G-sensor in the game: when the character needs to over some logs instead of using the arrows you can scroll through the logs on the screen. Another example: when jumping over pits you can tilt the console a bit while pressing forward and jump to increase the jumping range of your character. The game uses your natural moves – just remember how often you shake the gamepad trying to push your character.

The graphics is excellent – Uncharted game is an excellent representation of what the NGP is truly capable of. The extra graphics power allows the game to show perfect design and intricate shadows and light textures. What is important is that all these details actually create a world and you don't notice any flaws that would put you out of picture. Uncharted is a very cinematic game – there are a lot of script scenes and spectacular camerawork, close-ups and panoramas and it all looks very nice.

"No clear competitor to NGP" says Sony

"No clear competitor to NGP" Says Sony Even the handheld is not on the market, but Shuhei Yoshida , president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios seems very much the PSP successor to be convinced of the future. He said in an interview with Eurogamer.net are some statements about the NGP

"There is no clear competitor in the area in which works the NGP. The handheld will be established as a special device that people are asking for. NGP cannot be placed against smartphones. You can't make phone calls on it and it's too big to fit into your pocket."

Some commentators have suggested it's set to go head-to-head with Nintendo's 3DS when it launches later this year, but Sony doesn't see it that way.

"Compared to 3DS, it was very interesting – when we were designing the NGP we had no idea what Nintendo was going to do," Yoshida revealed. Aside from the 3D stereoscopic display, they seem to be keeping the same theme that they had with the DS – it feels like an update of the DS to me. Lots of choices we made were so different from their choices. It's kind of hard to compare the two, aside from the fact that both of them are dedicated gaming platforms."

That was the Sony boss expected to personally not a big kudos to the competition, should have been clear. But Yoshida said Sony and Nintendo had a common enemy: the cheap mobile game.

"We struggle with the same problem that makes Nintendo difficulties. It is up to us to show as a game developer and publisher of the people that the games are worth the money, and not like the competition a few cents. You cannot release the same content that you put on the iPhone for a dollar on to NGP or some other consoles and expect people to pay 20 times that."
